Code 9 Officer Needs Assistance

Very excited about the Code 9 Documentary coming out January 16. This has been a long time coming and deals with a crucial issues of PTSD in our law enforcement community.

This award winning groundbreaking documentary explores the darker side of law enforcement as it tells the stories of police officers and their families who are now suffering the mental anguish of the careers they chose. Code 9 explores the impacts of the stress and trauma First Responders deal with on the job which can result in PTSD and suicide. Code 9 addresses the problem as well as solutions.

This documentary, Code 9, goes where no one has gone in film before--into the depths of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the true threat it presents to law enforcement. Fifteen to eighteen percent of police officers suffer from PTSD. They need to see this film as do the many officers--and managers--who run the risk of incurring it.

Meyer: The ghosts of Dave Hutchings

We expect police officers to be resilient, hardened and fearless.

We ask them to be first on the scene of the worst acts of humankind, to witness the sad and tragic and to be a shield between us and killers and crime.

Then we expect them to march through it all with stoic reserve — strong, silent and unflinching. Sometimes even the bravest and toughest can be overcome.

This happened to one of the best — Aurora Police officer Dave Hutchings, 45, who died by his own hand on Dec. 4 — a tragic end to a remarkable life.

Prayers and love for Officer Lopez

DENVER -- Denver police identified the officer shot in the line of duty Tuesday as Antonio Lopez Jr.

Lopez was shot several times and is in the Intensive Care Unit after surgery at Denver Health Medical Center.

His father, Tony Lopez Sr., is a commander with the Denver Police Department.

Lopez Jr. was named one of DPD’s Best of 2014 after “he met a 4-year-old girl and would eventually go out of his way to make sure she got the birthday she deserved after saving her mom's life.”
